The North West Hospice holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Sligo and its surrounding counties.
Unfortunately, all too many of us have had to pass through its doors, since it opened 31 years ago, in order to either use its services or accompany a loved one. But the staff and volunteers always make that journey a little easier.
With the care they show to both their patients and their families, they can often turn heart-breaking situations into uplifting ones.
What keeps the hospice running — as well as the hard work of its staff and volunteers — is the support and donations from the community.
So, when it recently launched its Bridge to the Future Campaign, StoryLab was proud to become one of the corporate sponsors.
A day of music and street entertainment was held in Sligo on the June Bank Holiday weekend and, during the celebrations, the footbridge over the Garavogue River was officially named the Bridge of Light.
It was named in memory of all those loved and lost North West Hospice services over the years.
It was wonderful seeing so many people turn up to the event — which had a lovely inclusive family feel — to show their support to the North West Hospice and the great work that is carried out by its staff and volunteers.
