An appetite for general election talking points proved a surefire media winner for the Northern & Western Regional Assembly (NWRA) as it launched an important report on the future of the region that it manages.
The NWRA worked with StoryLab to get maximum impact for its study – ‘The Way Forward: A Region in Transition’ – and the Assembly duly grabbed the national spotlight with extensive media coverage.
StoryLab delivered the report to a range of our trusted national and regional contacts, with a media pack that included the report, the headline findings and a range of quality images.
With a general election in mid-flow, journalists and editors were quick to pick up on the conclusions of the report by NWRA chief economist John Daly which said Ireland now has a ‘two-speed economy’.
On the morning of the publication, RTÉ carried the headline on all of its morning radio news bulletins with a report by Western correspondent Pat McGrath. There was also extensive newspaper and online coverage including The Irish Times, Irish Independent, The Journal, Joe.ie, Farmers Journal, Connacht Tribune and a wide-range of regional media and broadcasters.
The NWRA was able to position the report and its findings, using media interviews by its director David Minton to provide authority, context and win influence among its stakeholders and the public.
The well-executed PR and media push garnered over 30 individual pieces of coverage and heavy online consumption, with the story reaching an audience of more than three million people.
