StoryLab was commissioned by Independent News & Media for the 5th year running to create an exclusive three -part series of magazines called the Written Word, for its flagship newspaper, the Irish Independent.
Our editors and writers got to work on the exam series which focuses on Leaving Certificate English – with tips and tricks from teachers, journalists and authors on the skills of telling compelling stories and using concise English.
There was also a special focus on the texts on the Leaving Certificate syllabus including classic plays such as Macbeth as well as movies, novels and, in part three, a detailed study of the poetry that could pop up in the State exams.
Former award-winning investigative journalist Susan O’Keeffe, now director of the Yeats Society, wrote about WB Yeats’s work and its relevance to young people today while author Sarah Webb shared the secrets of writing a book.
We were delighted to hear that broadcaster Ryan Tubridy gave the content project the stamp of approval on RTÉ Radio One. In a nice shout out, he said he “took it home and popped it on the desk” of his school-going daughter, describing the series as “really well put together, well thought out and very contemporary.”
