PR: Nobel Prize winner visits IT Sligo

StoryLab worked with IT Sligo to tell the story of the visit to Ireland of Dr William C Campbell, the winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology.

It’s not often college students are treated to a world-class lecture from an eminent Nobel prize winner.

StoryLab worked with IT Sligo to tell the story of the visit to Ireland of Dr William C Campbell, the winner of the 2015 Nobel Prize for Medicine and Physiology.

It was a homecoming for Dr Campbell — he hails from ‘just up the road’ in Ramelton, Co Donegal — though he now lives in the United States.

In front of a packed audience, Dr Campbell delivered the inaugural lecture in the new state-of-the-art Aurivo Auditorium.

The 86-year-old spoke about the work that led to the development of a drug called Avermectin, which has radically lowered the incidence of river blindness for millions of people in developing countries.

Widespread media coverage of the visit included print, online and broadcast interviews for Irish TV, Silicon Republic and local media.

RTE News correspondent Eileen Magnier interviewed Dr. Campbell for a report carried on the main Six One News bulletin, ensuring maximum exposure for IT Sligo and a key event in the institute’s calendar.
