Shining a spotlight on local filmmakers

It is always exciting to follow a project from start to finish so we were delighted to be asked to help spread the word about the first recipients of the WRAP Fund.

The Western Region Audiovisual Producer’s Fund — or WRAP Fund – is an initiative of the Western Development Commission (WDC) and the Galway Film Centre and was set up to stimulate the industry in the western region.

StoryLab worked with the Western Development Commission (WDC) at the end of 2017  to announce the establishment of the €2m regional fund to encourage the film, television drama, animation and gaming sectors in the West of Ireland.

So, we were more than happy to get on board this summer when the Galway Film Centre asked us to shine a spotlight on the projects that received the funding.

The aim of the fund is to assist local talent and it has supported three feature films, one animated feature and one documentary which will undertake production across the West, creating opportunities for local talent. It is anticipated that the projects backed by the WRAP Fund so far will generate in excess of €4m spend in the region.

The fund is run in association with the local authorities of Clare, Donegal, Galway City, Galway County, Mayo, Roscommon and Sligo as well as Údarás na Gaeltachta.

National coverage for the latest PR campaign included ScreenDaily, Hot Press, Scannain, Raidio na Gaeltachta and Council Review magazine. Local coverage in the counties involved included the Connacht Tribune, The Sligo Champion, Galway Bay FM, Galway Daily and Ocean FM.
