But this video is about more than just football. It’s about the future. Sligo Rovers – as the club approaches its centenary – asked StoryLab to create a video that honours its past while looking ahead with excitement.

A central part of the video is the impending redevelopment of The Showgrounds. With the club securing €16.4 million in government funding under the Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF), Sligo Rovers is on the cusp of a new era.

The plans will see The Showgrounds transformed into a UEFA Category 3 venue – the first of its kind outside Dublin. This redevelopment will enhance not only the matchday experience but also the club’s role as a regional hub for sport and community initiatives.

To tell this story, we filmed at key matches, capturing unforgettable moments of triumph and joy among players and supporters. We also documented the incredible work happening off the pitch – Sligo Rovers’ walking football programme, which keeps older generations active, football meetups providing a welcoming space for refugees, and volunteers who give their time to make the club a true community pillar.

Adding a deeply personal touch to the project, we enlisted Joe Gorman to narrate the voiceover. As the son of the late journalist and lifelong Rovers supporter Tommie Gorman, Joe’s voice brings both warmth and poignancy to the video, connecting past, present, and future in a way that only someone with deep ties to the club could.

The Showgrounds has been the home of Sligo Rovers since 1928, and this redevelopment ensures it will remain at the heart of football in the North West for generations to come. For this proud club, the best is yet to come.
