Award-winning superbug busters ready for take-off in 2018

2017 has been a hugely significant year for Dublin technology firm Kastus and its fight against superbugs and 2018 looks even brighter.

Kastus started 2017 launching its first revolutionary life-saving solution Log4+® at Arab Health, in Dubai, the largest healthcare event in the MENA region.

And after a hugely successful year, the antimicrobial experts are about to kickstart 2018 with a significant deal, which will see the world’s first ever truly superbug-resistant ceramic products to come to market.

Throughout the year, the company has been winning awards, including the overall prize at the Irish Times Innovation Awards and the Knowledge Transfer Ireland (KTI) Spin-put Company Impact Award. It won those awards  — and made world headlines — for its development of ground-breaking technology to prevent the spread of superbugs.

Company owner, John Browne, recently signed a deal with British Ceramic Tile (BCT), the largest manufacturer of ceramic and glass tiles in the UK, which will see superbug-resistant floor and wall tiles on the market in early 2018.

The deal, which will be the first of many, comes after a decade of research where, using complex nanotechnology, the effective and unique chemical solution Log4+® was created.

The product kills 99.9 per cent of harmful antibiotic-resistant bacteria such as MRDA, E. Coli and fungus such as athlete’s foot. In October, the company launched Kastus Metal, which is a similar superbug-resistant solution for use on metals including a range of everyday, high-touch surfaces such as smart phones and medical devices.

StoryLab has been working with Kastus for the past year to raise it profile in the national and international media with more than 50 pieces of coverage obtained throughout the year and we look forward to continuing to tell its story into 2018.
