Loving the Written Word
English was the subject of choice last month when StoryLab edited the Irish Independent’s annual ‘Written Word’ series of exam supplements.
The flagship series is described by teachers as an ‘indispensable guide’ to the Leaving Certificate English syllabus and June’s crucial examinations.
After being commissioned by Mediahuis, StoryLab got to work packaging study tips, exam tactics and career perspectives from some of Ireland’s best teachers, writers and journalists including Andrea Smith.
We spoke to acclaimed writer Edel Coffey who discussed the power of words and her writing career. Our own Donal Conaty carried out an insightful interview with the writer Donal Ryan who shared his wisdom, tips and writing advice.
Part three of the 2022 series focused on poetry in the exams with inputs from Susan O’Keeffe, director of the Yeats Society Sligo and writers including Maeve McKenna, Rhona Trench, Elske Rahill and Annemarie Ní Churreáin.
As well as reaching an audience of more than 400,000 readers of the Irish Independent, the Written Word was delivered to classrooms nationwide by Mediahuis.
